What Should I Do If My Butt Plug Gets Stuck?

There are many different ways in which you can spice up your sex life, with butt plugs being one of the most popular ways to do so. This can be a way of increasing the fun with a partner or even enhancing pleasure by yourself.

Though butt plugs can and do heighten the pleasure, there are times when they can cause a couple of problems and the occasional medical problem. A good example of this can be when a butt plug gets stuck, because it is a bit of an awkward situation to ring someone and ask for help with the removal.

Injuries can occur with butt plugs in play, so it is always best that you approach the concept of using butt plugs with caution.

Is It Possible for A Butt Plug To Get Stuck?

To put it bluntly, yes.

There is a risk with all sorts of sex toys getting stuck inside you and this is no different with butt plugs.

Being careful, wary and cautious of potential issues is always advised but what everyone wants to know is…how likely is it that a butt plug will get stuck?
If used correctly, the chance of a butt plug getting stuck isn’t actually that high but when they do, try and think on the positive side. At least you will have a hilarious sex story to tell your nearest and dearest at a later date, once the embarrassment has worn off. These are, don’t forget, some of the funniest stories you will ever hear.

We all know someone who has had an interesting experience getting something stuck inside them and with this in mind, it is important that you keep safety at the forefront of your mind when playing with butt plugs.

You might be eager to try something new and for many people, butt plugs are very enticing, but you must take all of the advised safety measures before you begin. If you aren’t safe, you won’t be having any fun! There are plenty of ways in which you can ensure that any sex toy can be used in as safe a manner as possible so that the risk of it getting stuck is hugely unlikely.

There is always the odd occasion when things go wrong and a butt plug may get stuck, but there are ways in which you can “detach” the butt plug. However, if these options don’t work, you must seek medical attention as quickly as possible.

Before we look at the ways in which you are able to try self "detachment," we need to understand the ways in which butt plugs can get stuck and other difficulties possible with anal playtime. Don't be embarrassed – you won't be the first or the last!

How Is It Possible for A Butt Plug To Get Stuck?

With everything we use and everything we enjoy using, there are certain guidelines to stick to. They are not created for the fun of it, they are made to keep us safe as we enjoy the product in question. This applies to butt plugs.

One of the most important things to remember when using a butt plug, either as a seasoned professional or as a first timer, is to lubricate your butt plug properly. More lube is better than insufficient lube.

This is because if there is not enough lubricant used, a vacuum is created in the anal canal which prevents the butt plug from being able to be removed. What makes this worse is if the vacuum sucks the butt plug further into the anal canal. Not only will this become more painful, but you also will not be able to reach it to remove it either.

Lubrication reduces butt plug problems!

The Base Is More Important Than You Realise

Do not buy or use butt plugs that do not have a flared base. If you do, the chance of them disappearing into your nether regions never to be seen again are high! Flared bases are there for multiple reasons – not only are they easier to hold, they decrease the risk of the butt plug getting stuck and if it did get stuck, a flared based butt plug would not be physically able to disappear into your anal canal if an unwanted vacuum was created.

The flared base is wider than your anus. It does not matter how big your anus is, how loose it is or how much time you or your partner spend on the anal foreplay, a butt plug with a flared base is a much safer option because the chances of it getting stuck are hugely reduced.

Scary, weird and awkward sex stories usually have one common theme – these toy instructions were not followed correctly, thus leading to the embarrassing issue!

Safety Should Never Be Second

If you like to play around in the old anal department but don’t tend to use butt plugs, then you need to be very careful if you are using a dildo to stimulate your anus. All it would take is one slip of the fingers and the average dildo or vibrator would disappear to places you would not be able to reach to remove it. This is the major plus of having a flared base butt plug – losing it cannot happen!

Now, hopefully, we don't need to state this for you specifically, but you would be surprised what medics have to deal with. It is not advised that you use objects that have not been specifically made for anal play in or around your anus. This is very dangerous, can be harmful and in some cases, can be life-threatening.

There are lots of things around the home that may look as if they are the same shape as a butt plug and may even look disturbingly like a butt plug, but this does not mean that you need to try them out to see if they feel like a butt plug. This will not end well!

What Should I Do If My Butt Plug Gets Stuck?

· Keep Calm

Panicking will only make the situation worse and the more tense you are, the less likely you are going to be able to remove the stuck butt plug. Yes, we know it’s probably not the first thing you think of when you discover that a butt plug is stuck but sometimes stating the obvious is the most necessary and most useful piece of advice you can be given.

When you begin to panic and get anxious, the body’s natural reaction is to tense and clench. But this is the most counterproductive response, although it is automatic, as clenching results in the butt plug moving up higher and further into the anal canal ensuring that it is much harder to remove.

· Keep Moving

Don’t be worried about movement. Focusing your mind and body on another activity, even something as simple as just walking around for a couple of minutes will enable your body to start to relax. In doing so, your muscles will become less tense and you will be less anxious. This will help to move the butt plug down in the anal canal so that it is either starting to exit your anus of its own accord or at least moving to a place where you can get a grasp on it.

We know that this is not the easiest piece of advice, but it is definitely beneficial.

· Relax

As you have just discovered, the more relaxed your muscles are, the more likely it is that you will be able to get the lost butt plug out of your anal canal without requiring medical intervention. So, tensed and clenched muscles will prevent you from retrieving the butt plug, so relaxing will help loosen the muscles and recover the plug.

Taking a hot shower or better still, a bath, will relax you, your muscle and your anus, all at the same time.

· Kegels and Squats

When your anal muscles have started to relax, try getting yourself down into a squatting action and then pushing. This is a great way to help move the toy downwards in the anal canal and hopefully dislodge it completely.

You must make sure that if you are doing squats and pushing as hard as you can but notice that the butt plug is not moving, you must not push any harder. Doing so will cause damage which may be irreparable, though the most common medical conditions are hemorrhoids and tearing. You also do not want the butt plug to move further up the anal canal either.

· Fish Out the Butt Plug

As an alternative to squatting and pushing, you can try fishing for the lost butt plug with your fingers. To do so, make sure you lubricate your fingers well, be careful and slow when reaching into your anus for the toy or plug. When a butt plug is within easy reaching distance, there is a good chance that you will be able to dislodge a stuck butt plug in this manner. If it does not come out easily using your fingers, do not try too hard to get it out. If you are not able to get a good, firm grip on the toy or plug, you might end up just pushing the butt plug further up your anal canal which would end up doing more harm than good. In this situation, it is better just to stop.

· Get Help!

Okay, we know it will be a rather embarrassing situation and you will be the color of beetroot for a while but what’s most important is that you get the missing butt plug removed safely. Doctors will have seen it all before and will be more concerned about your safety and the removal of the butt plug without causing any damage, than anything else.

Don’t Get Butt Plugs Stuck

It would be great if we could all live in a world where we never got ourselves into embarrassing situations, but the fact is, getting a butt plug stuck could happen to any of us.

There are ways in which you can decrease the risk of this happening if you are a regular user or are looking to start your anal play journey, though.

Firstly, keep safety at the forefront of your mind always in relation to anything anal. When choosing new anal based toys or plugs, find them with a flared base so that you never have to worry about them getting lost in your anal canal and disappearing. The likelihood of your anus being able to swallow a flared base is practically zero to none.

Secondly, if you like to play around with anal toys, like a bullet butt plug, for instance, then make sure that you always purchase ones which have an attached cord. This way, you cannot lose them inside your anal canal.

They act in the same way as a tampon really with the little cord there purely to help you to get it out of you with ease.

Thirdly, be sure to use plenty of lube in every area – the toy/butt plug, the anus, and the anal canal. Also, make sure you have the right type of lube for the dildo or the vibrator you are going to use.

Remember that the more lube you use in anal play, the less likely you are to ever get an anal plug stuck. The better the prep you do before you commence your anal play, the more enjoyment, more satisfaction and the more likely you are to do it again!

Overall Butt Plug Advice

We all joke about health and safety, but there is nothing more important really, especially when it comes to keeping you safe in the bedroom. No matter how hard we try to avoid difficult situations when we are in an intimate situation, these things happen to the best of us and there are a few different ways in which you can try to extract a lodged butt plug at home if you ever find yourself in this situation. Keep calm, think logically and the chances are you will be able to dislodge it yourself. If this is not easy or does not happen quickly, you are always advised to seek medical assistance as soon as possible.

As long as you use butt plugs in the manner in which they were designed, you will gain a huge amount of pleasure from them and they won’t be giving you a literal pain in the arse any time soon!
